U.S. and Russian figure skaters, along with family members and coaches were confirmed passengers on an American Airline jet that collied with a Army Black Hawk helicopter near Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. crashing into the Potomac river Wednesday evening.

U.S. Figure Skating, confirmed the skaters were returning from a developmental camp following the national figur skating championships held in Wichita,Kansas.

While U.S. Figure Skating has yet to identify any of memebers onboard, as they continue to gather information and await official confirmation from authorities.

“U.S. Figure Skating can confirm that several members of our skating community were sadly aboard American Airlines Flight 5342, which collided with a helicopter yesterday evening in Washington, D.C.,” U.S. Figure Skating said in a statement. “We are devastated by this unspeakable tragedy and hold the victims’ families closely in our hearts.”

Russian state news has reported that russian figure skaters were onboard the flight. The Kremlin identified figure skating coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, who won the pairs title at the 1994 World Championships and competed in two Olympic Games. Their son, Maxim Naumov, also a competitve figure skater may have been onboard as well.

Officials have not said how many people died in the accident but have suggested that there may be no survivors.
