Well, you can now add FIRST BALLOT HALL OF FAMER to the LONG list of accomplishments for NBA Legend, Carmelo Anthony! Drafted as the third pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, the same draft as LeBron James.
On April 2 it was announced that the 10x All-Star, would get the nod to be inducted into the James A. Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. And Carmelo didn’t just get inducted because of his NBA career, it is the BASKETBALL Hall of Fame. So this includes his accomplishments in college and in FIBA (International Basketball Federation) career.
In the basketball world, Melo is arguably one of the GREATEST college basketball players of all time. He was a One and Done (1 season of college then going Pro), and in his one season at Syracuse he was the NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player and he would top that off with an NCAA Tournament Championship, the ONLY one in the SCHOOLS HISTORY. After leaving college, he would get drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the third pick.
After his rookie year, he was selected to play in the 2004 Olympics in Athens where he would take home the Bronze Medal. Not satisfied with Bronze, Melo went back to the Olympics three more times in 2008, 2012 and 2016, coming back to the States with Gold Medals each time.
After hanging up his jersey for good in 2022, Melo was named to the NBA’s Top 75 Anniversary Team which recognizes 75 of the NBA’s all time greatest players in the league’s 75-year history.
Carmelo Anthony’s was a 10x All-Star, 1x Scoring Champion, NCAA Champion, NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player, USBWA National Freshman of the Year, USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year and a McDonald’s All-American in high school.
