The WAGS Miami stars Philip Wheeler and Ashley Roberts just made it official! The newlyweds took the time away from the show to tell us how it all started.
Almost ten years ago, Philip ran into Ashley while she was working as a waitress at a nightclub in Atlanta while in school at Tuskegee University for animal science. Phil just started his rookie season with the Indianapolis Colts.
Phil and his teammates came to Dream nightclub back in 2008 during one of their breaks from football. He tried talking to Ashley but she wasn’t having it so he sent his wingman over to tell her that he was a good guy. She still gave him a wrong number.
The following weekend Phil and his friends came back to Dream.
“I wasn’t working so I was probably a couple drinks in and friendlier so he when he talked to me that night I was like okay, alright you’re nice”.
Since that night they have been inseparable. Opposites attract when it comes to these two.
“He’s like really, really calm and I’m kind of hyper. I like attention and he’s the opposite, he’s like a fly on the wall so I think that we are just a good balance for each other”.
The couple had a son together in 2013, Philip Wheeler II. Fast forward to June 19th, 2016 Ashley and Phil took one of their “staycations” before he had to report back for camp. They stayed at the Versace Mansion in Miami.
“I kind of had a feeling he was going to propose and he was scheduled to leave for training camp and I was getting worried because it hadn’t happened yet”.
The first night there, they went to dinner and after they finished eating the waiter asked if they wanted to take a picture by the pool. There was a ring box floating in the water.
“He pretends like he’s tying his shoe and he reaches down and gets it. He opens the box and the ring is like… it was cute ring, but the diamond was like invisible”.
“I was trying to still look excited but inside I was like really, all this time… okay. So he says will you marry me and I was like yea. But then this other waitress walks up to us and hands him this other box and it has my real ring in it”.
It was Phil’s idea to trick Ashley. The proposal was filmed during a November 2016 episode of WAGS Miami.
“Our son Phil Jr., was the ring bearer”.
“I feel like we balance each other out”.
“We got married on the beach in Curacao at the Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort”.
“We used one of Phil’s old jerseys to make my garter, which was my something borrowed”.
“My dress was designed by Lena Berisha of Eve Milady Dresses”.
