Usher Raymond a fighter?  Well, we know his lyrics pack some power and have had us grooving for decades but now we get to see Usher across the big screen in “Hands of Stone”.  This will be his very first role in a major film.  Sure he’s acted a little in videos but took nothing compared to what it took preparing for this role.  Usher spent two years working out at Decatur Boxing Club to get in top fighting form for his role as Sugar Ray Leonard. POW!

Hands of Stone is a biopic about the life of Roberto Duran, played by Edgar Ramirez.  Duran’s fight with Sugar Ray Leonard in one of the most famous fights in boxing, known as No Mas Fight. “No more,” is what Duran said to Leonard to end the eighth round of their second bout.  The film was directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz and will hit theatres this summer.

When asked about the film and if his performance was academy award worthy Usher told Men’s Health, “I don’t know if this is the one that would win me an Oscar or not.  I’m going into it offering my interpretation and my hard work and my dedication to be the best Sugar Ray ever, or as good as the man can be.  I’ve spoken to him, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to live up to him.  But I’ll try to be better than him.”

We’ll definitely be front and center to watch Usher on the silver screen.
