Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is donating $600,000 to upgrade the HVAC system at Northeast High School in Rhawnhurst, one of 52 schools in the Philadelphia district that still does not have air conditioning.
Hurts made the announcement Tuesday morning, surprising the high school students with the gift from the Jalen Hurts Foundation.
The donation is the largest in the foundation’s history.
Hurts learned about the lack of access to air conditioning from a television segment three years ago, which affected nearly 100 schools and 50,000 students; he launched the “Keep It Cool Initiative”.
Through the initiative, the foundation donated $5,000 per Jalen Hurts touchdown in the 2024-25 NFL season to improve air conditioning at ten additional Philadelphia schools … You do the math!
“I’ve been in your guys’ shoes, and I know the importance of having support and having the backing to do and achieve whatever dreams that you have,” Hurts told students at an event at the school Tuesday.
“Growing up in the South, I was very blown away about school being canceled not for snow, but for lack of AC,” Hurts added.
Through his charitable efforts for the youth, Hurts is winning over the City of Brotherly Love yet again.
