Julio Hangs it Up

If you’re like me and grew up watching football in the 2010’s, 99% of the stars you watched in that time are probably retired and on to new careers. Well, adding to the list retirees is wide receiver, Julio Jones. And if you’re like me, this is painful news…

It was announced on April 4, that the former Atlanta Falcon would be hanging up his jersey after 13 years in the NFL. And it’s pretty safe to say that he’ll be a heading to Canton pretty soon to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Don’t believe me? Well check this out,

Over the course of his 13-year career, Julio was a 7x Pro Bowler, 2x All-Pro, 2x receiving yards leader, Co-Receptions leader AND member of the 2010’s All-Decade team! Finishing his career off with 914 catches, 13,703 receiving yards and 66 touchdowns! He also made a Super Bowl appearance in 2016 where he would unfortunately come up short to the New England Patriots.

Before entering the NFL, Julio was a highly talented athlete coming from the Alabama Crimson Tide. Only needing the minimum 3 years to make his case for why he was Pro ready, Julio Jones declared for the 2011 NFL Draft. Julio was invited to do the “All-Star Football Challenge” which is a skills contest that is broadcasted by ESPN. After the skills challenge, he would make his way to the NFL Combine where he would show off his One-of-a-Kind athletic abilities where he had the furthest long jump (11ft, 3in) of ALL the wide receivers in attendance and the third fastest 40-Yard-Dash time (4.39 secs) amongst all the receivers. The most impressive part, he did it all on a BROKEN FOOT!

Watching Julio Jones in the 2010’s as I was growing up was inspirational to say the very least! Fast, strong, athletic and silky smooth. Those are just a few words to describe the Julio’s game, and the game of football will truly miss him.
