Kathryn Smith has become the first full time female head coach in the NFL. Hired by the Buffalo Bills, Smith will be a special teams quality control coach for the Buffalo Bills.  Bills head coach Rex Ryan said, “Kathryn Smith has done an outstanding job in the seven years that she has worked with our staff.  She certainly deserves this promotion based on her knowledge and strong commitment, just to name a couple of her outstanding qualities, and I just know she’s going to do a great job serving in the role of Quality Control – Special Teams.”  Previously Smith worked as an administrative assistant under Ryan and prior to that Smith was a player personnel assistant with the Jets. This shows that the NFL continues to strive toward creating a progressive environment for qualified and capable women. Progress.
