Florida International University in Miami, FL and “Mr. 305” himself, Pitbull, have agreed to naming rights for the FIU football stadium. Pitbull is going to pay the university $1.2 million per year over the next five years, with an option to renew, for the venue to be named “Pitbull Stadium.”
It is uncommon for a musician and a football stadium to come to an agreement of this kind, but it makes perfect sense. Armando Christian Pérez, known as Pitbull, was born in Miami to Cuban immigrants and attended high school just blocks from FIU’s main campus. This partnership will bring high visibility to FIU. Pitbull will not only have placement for his Voli 305 Vodka to be sold at the stadium but he will also have access to two suites for up to 40 people each home game. Pitbull will create an anthem for FIU athletics, post on social media about FIU twelve times per year and appear at a fundraising event. In exchange, Pitbull will be allowed to use the stadium for 10 days per year free of charge. He will put aside tickets for FIU students. He will also be able to assign a performer at halftime or postgame of a home game, if he wishes.
Pitbull becomes the “Official Entrepreneur of FIU Athletics.” We think this is a pretty sweet deal. Looking forward to seeing what Pitbull will name the stadium’s facilities including the student section, end zone, club and field.
