The lovely WMMA champion and actor Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey made headlines when she opened up on the Ellen Show about how low she felt following her knockout loss to Holly Holm in November.
When Ellen asked her if she’d considered giving up fighting after that, Ronda told her she’d felt much worse.
“Honestly, I was sitting in the corner and thinking to myself, ‘What am I if I’m not this?’” she told Ellen. “I felt like killing myself.”
She said that not long after that, she looked up and saw her boyfriend and thought, “I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive.”
Though she received criticism, Rousey recently defended what she said when she told TMZ Sports about it.
“There’s a history of suicide in my family,” she said. “My dad and his father both took their own lives,” adding that, “I’ve never shied away from talking about suicide…it’s really heavily affected our family and anything I can do to make sure that it affects as few people as possible, I’d be happy to do that. I don’t see why it’s looked at as a bad thing.”
Ellen personally was very proud of Rousey’s honesty and told her that she’d helped a lot of people by saying what she did, adding that it was very courageous.
We agree.
