A weekend filled with Passion Purpose and Philanthropy – SET an Example Conference
When over 100 athlete’s wives get together, there’s bound to be something worth telling. And this weekend was no different. And we’re here to tell all.
Friday night’s reception set the stage for the weekend. The swank reception hall welcomed women of the NFL across all 32 teams and the organizers of the SET the example Conference pulled out all stops to exceed the expectations of such an elite group of women.
Close your eyes and imagine being greeted with the epitome of sophistication. Sultry music humming, glitter gold draped highboys, hot pink back drops, haloed by the beautiful downtown Atlanta skyline. When you think pro athlete wives, you instantly think luxury and this conference didn’t disappoint. The flowered step and repeat gave an air of sophistication, not to mention the gold glitter carpet that added just the right amount of sparkle to every photo taken. Plush seating and matching white orchids added that soft feminine touch, catching the eye of every attendee. I must say, Tiffany Cook of Tiffany Cook Events outdid herself, making it the perfect atmosphere to chat and unwind.
Friday night set the tone for Saturday – its where the magic happened. Patrick Walker Reese, the event host and only male in the room, held his own and kept everyone intrigued and engaged. There’s a lot to be said for a man who can evoke thoughtful conversation for a full day; in a room full of strong, opinionated women. While I won’t spill all the tea on the conference, its only right that I give you some insight on how the SET an Example Conference came through .
Discovering You: Personal Identity & Finding Your hustle.
Thoughtful conversation about personal branding and finding your identity. A much needed convo stressing the importance of no not letting your dreams fall by the wayside while being engulfed in the ups and downs of being a football wife. Panel discussion led by Nevania Graves, Kierra Douglas, Linda Hope, Chanita Foster, Jackie Long and Dominque Sensabaugh.
Effective Communication
Let’s admit, we can all use help in this department. This session stressed the importance of learning what works when not only communicating with your spouse, but communicating effectively to discuss your needs in the business world as well. It’s the key to all helthy relationships, not just romantic ones. This panel discussion was led by Ashleigh Ignelzi, Joy Davis, Kelly Davis, Natalie Stewart, Mallory Brown and Danisha Rolle.
The Truth About Domestic Violence
This is never an easy topic.emotions and opions weren’t lacking on this topic. It was an eye opener for many and shed light on not only the different forms of DV but also how to recognize the signs of someone else being abused, especially when it is not physical abuse. This panel discussion was led by Dr. Keita Joy Ductant, Cecelia Simon, Janay Rice and Sarina Renee.
Love, Sex & Self Expressions
We take love and sex for granted. During this session we learned that with both, you must be intentional. We also learned that expectations are very different for women and men. Most women are drawn to the emotional side of the two. Men, well, they’re just different. We learned the importance and impact of 7 minutes (you’d had to be there to understand this jewel). And learning how to “SQUEEZE” makes all the difference when it come sex. This entertaining and informative discussion was led by Iesha Bailey and Grace Allen.
Brain Health & Lifestyle Transitions
With the SET an Example Conference just on the heels of Mental Health Awareness Month this session hit home for many wives who are privately dealing with the after effects of football. We discussed everything from recognizing mental illness to caring for someone with CTE. This was an emotional panel discussion led by Kim Adamle, Michi Marshall,Morgan Corbitt, Kema Ogden, Charity Morgan and Vanessa Wilhelm.
